I’m a day late with this week in singles which I usually do on Wednesday but I have a good reason: everything out there right now is kinda shit which makes it harder to select the best of the best. This week it’s pretty much all shit with Enrique Iglesias in a duet with Ciara, to The Saturdays with their Comic Relief Single the remake “Just Can’t Get Enough”. Let’s just cut to it, this week’s singles.
Who the hell pairs these people together? I mean Enrique Iglesias and Ciara? I mean that is just so random and it just does not work. I mean this guy has made a duet with Whitney Houston that went nowhere and now this ?Utterly pointless.
Here we have these two singing ‘Taking Back My Love” and if you think this a good idea you won’t think so anymore once you A) heard the song and B) seen the video.
The fact that the song is very annoying is only made worse by the fact that Enrique sings like a goat that has just had it’s testicles cut off. And let’s face it, Ciara is no Celine Dion and really doesn’t bring much to the table. The song is produced by Red One who produced Lady Gaga’s classic “Poker Face” and the song has more than a whiff of that song with NONE of the magic.
Another thing that makes this one of the worst things I’ve heard this year is they way the song starts off by Enrique screaming out “RED OOOOOOOONEEEE” and “CIAAAAAAARA”, I mean seriously we know who we are listening to and DO NOT need to be reminded. If this songs makes it ANYWHERE there is something seriously wrong with the world.
My Rating: 5 hours listening to Enrique Iglesias “Bailamos” NON-STOP
I just don’t get the Brits fascination with Take That. I mean they had some really killer choons and some ultra Gay videos that made the 90′s. But now it just seems a bit pointless to make boring music without any of the fun they had back in the 90′s. Now they are “serious” and I think that by “serious” they mean *yawn*.
Their last single “The Greatest Day” was a song that went nowhere musically and now we get this cheery, upbeat snoozer. 2nd single “Up All Night” has a very organic feel to it… hmmmm, and I thought organic was always better… maybe that was just for the food, cos when it comes to music it just sounds… well….. shit.
This time Mark Owen takes lead vocals and in the video Gary sits his fat ass down and just plays the piano, while the other 2 hot ones are play instruments. After watching the video a question does come to mind: Why the hell does Howard Donald insist on hiding his hotness behind that hairy mess on his face? SHAVE IT OFF AND LET” SEE THE MUG!
I will say that I am TOTALLY in LOVE with Jason Orange. He just gets hotter as the years go by he is so stylish, delicious and…….. ummm, anyway back to the ummm….. song, oh yes, well it’s shit.
My Rating: 5 hours of listening to ALL of Mark Owen’s solo work. (and if you’ve heard any of it, you know how bad it really is)
After Jennifer made a splash with “Spotlight” which was an ok-ish song, she continues her ok-ish-ness with her 2nd single “If This Isn’t Love”
The song, a mid-tempo R&b song breaks no new ground and sounds like just about anything on the radio at the moment. Not very special, just by the numbers. I do hope that She decided to kick things up into full gear with either a POWER ballad or some heavy hitting DANCE anthem, cos these R&b-lite songs are just not doing anything for me.
It’s quite strange how someone like Jennifer who has a big voice and what seems to be a big personality can make such boring and “old” music. I guess she’s another artist that feels she has to be “serious” in order to be respected.
Why she won a Grammy for her album is still anyone’s guess, if you can’t fall asleep and need something to send you off into sleepy times check out the video and you’ll be out before it’s end.
My Rating: 2 and a half very serious stars.
I know that this single is going for a good cause and all, but couldn’t The Saturdays have made something a little more interesting that this to help dying children out? I truly think so. I mean just because it’s for charity doesn’t mean it automatically has to be shit. Sadly this is the case for this karaoke re-make of the Depeche Mode Classic “I Just Can’t Get Enough”.
To me this sounds as though it was recorded in about an hour and then that was it, this years Comic Relief Single was one out of the way and it was on to ask for money. Now if you are going to ask people to help out and support a good cause, do it with something that we can actually listen to.
The video is not any help either as the girls try to be “funny” while dressed up as 40′s hookers and there ain’t nothing funny about that. To add to all of this, the video looks CHEAP-O and I wouldn’t be surprised if this never gets played after the entire Comic Relief season goes away. I guess we will have to wait a bit longer for a proper Comic Relief single that makes people want to spend their hard earned cash, cos this ain’t it.
My Rating: 5 very sad 40′s hookers.
So as you can see there was on single of the week, but I think that next week, I’ll be able to find a song that deserves such an honorable mention, till then laterz!
