I have been writing down my thoughts & feelings on some sort of journal (whether they be blogs or diaries) for almost all my life. I can remember starting to write my feelings down around the time I was coming to grips with my sexuality, so for me that was around 10 years old.
I would write down what had happened to me during the day and then as more things started to happen in my life at school and family I started to dive deeper into my emotions and since then I have never looked back. I find writing down what I feel very therapeutic, especially when there is something that is really bugging me and I don’t always have the time, with work, relationships and everything else that is going on in life.
For me writing things down has made me deal with a lot of things that if it hadn’t been for writing them down I would probably be in some mental institution somewhere by now. I have been to my share of psychologists and I remember that the first one I went to actually told me to always write down what I felt cos it would help me deal with stress and eventually lead me to a happier self.
If you are having a hard time dealing with something try to write what the situation makes you feel. And don’t hold back. You’ll find that it will be a very liberating experience and you will feel as though a heavy weight has been lifted from your chest. It’s important that we spend more and more time with ourselves and deal with matters that could end up affecting us in the future if we don’t deal with them now.
All you have to do is pick up your pen.
