I gotta say that my expectations for Faith Evan’s new album were quite high. Her last album “First Lady” contained the brilliance of “Again” and the now dance-floor classic “Mesmerized.” There is nothing on here that even comes close to that level of amazing-ness.
But just because there is nothing on here like that doesn’t mean it’s crap. Far from it. There are some gems on here where Faith delivers breezy, fun and playful vocals such as on “Sunshine,” and “I Still.” There are also moments that give her room to sing the shit outta a song like on the great first single “Gone Already.” The real problem here is too many songs. There are over 15 of’em! So, there was some obvious filler like the tepid ballad “Baby Lay” and about 4 other songs that could have been cut. A set of 10 good, solid tacks have made a much stronger album.
The other thing that is kinda annoying is the album artwork. It’s dreadful and looks uber-cheap. This is sadly what you get without the support of a major label. This marks Faith’s first independent album and things could have been better. Hopefully the Freemasons will get their hands on one of the good tracks on here, remix the shit outta it and gain it some popularity.
Not a terrible album, but certainly not something we would wait 5 years to hear. Faith, next time learn this one word: Edit.
My Rating: 3 semi-stiff cocks.(sans the pre-cum)
Have look at the video for one of the albums highlights the lead single “Gone Already.”
