Judge 4 Urself: Fosters Ad Homophobic?

O.k I really hate beer not only cos it tastes gross but it also gives you a mega belly and in my book that is NEVER a good look! Well, there has been some talk on some gay blogs and gay press that one of their adverts is homophobic.

It’s an ad where a guy calls up the “Fosters Experts” which in reality are just a pair of idiots that do nothing but wait around for pathetic people to give them a call so they can spew out more ridiculous advice. In this particular commercial a guy calls up and asks whether he should put sunscreen on his buddies back… and the two boobs give him some “rules.” Now, why are there rules to that? This is a mystery to me. I mean who the fuck cares? What is the guy who is calling afraid of? Looking faggy?  This is what some are saying is homophobic about the commercial. That it’s “implied” that if he does that he will look less of a “man.”

I don’t know if it’s homophobic but one thing I do know is that its not funny and more than anything it’s just flat out annoyingly stupid. As always watch and judge 4 urself!

Well it’s more than implied if people want to over-think it. It’s an exaggeration of laddishness. End of, really. The aussie advisers are a caricature of blokey masculinity (they’re aussies for a start). Hetero men should be allowed to be hetero men and of course they would be worried about being thought gay (especially if there’s that fit bird with the killer jugs watching). It ain’t rocket science. So were most of us at one time or another. You’re right that it’s not funny and it’s utterly thoughtless, but I don’t think it’s intention is to scream “Gayness is wrong!” through every TV set in the land. It’s just wrong for Fosters’ target demographic – Neanderthal lad. Whether it’s a good idea to exclude beer swilling gay blokes is one for the marketing men. It all goes down the same way fnarr fnarr.

I agree it’s an exaggeration of “laddishness” however that doesn’t stop it from being utterly annoying and of course me having to fucking mute my T.V every time this ad comes on!!

It is so annoying to the point of wanting hurl a brick through my TV set. It’s mildly homophobic, living up to the stereotypical Aussie hetro man and way down to the level of the target demographics.

It’s not funny, it’s not clever, all I can say is I don’t drink Fosters!
