Review Of Da Week: Nicole Scherzinger, “Killer Love”

Nicole has been trying to make it without the weight of the other pussies from PCD for quite sometime now. She has released several flop tracks and it seemed as though solo success was never gonna happen for her. It was more than obvious that she knew she was the STAR in The Pussycat Dolls and Nicole has been itching to have the light shine on her only, I think pretty much since day one.

Scherzinger focused and decided if she was gonna make it she would have to do it somewhere other than the U.S. So, the UK was under attack with the nastiness that was her first single “Poison” from her new album “Killer Love.” The song was a no.1 hit for her but problem with “Poison” was that it wasn’t very much of a song, it was loud, annoying and it tried way to hard to be different, so in a way it was kinda perfect for Nicole cos it describes her as a pop-star down to a T.

“Killer Love” is a mix of modern, polished, sleek dance-pop with influences from popular pop-stars of the moment from the Rihanna light-ness of “Right There,”  to Beyonce on the “keep on fighting for your dreams” song “You Be Loved.” She even tries to go for the over-the-top power ballad with a Leona Lewis twinge on “Casualty.” These moments are weighed down by the fact that they would have sounded better if those artists had actually recorded those songs rather than Nicole herself.

The album does have two highlights and this comes when Nicole isn’t trying to be anyone but herself. The sassy spark of “Wet” is where she sounds like she’s having fun and she doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. But the fact that it sound almost EXACTLY like Rihanna’s “S&M” takes merit away from it. Then there is the 2nd single “Don’t Hold Your Breath” which is catchy and it sounds as though she has her own style. Kinda.

The 2nd half of the album is cluttered with boring ballads and it’s because Nicole is a bad singer but the songs just aren’t very interesting and we really don’t hear her singing about “being too hurt to love again..” and sappy crap like that. NO. I want to hear her sing about loosening up her buttons and about how when she grows up, she wants to be famous… wait a sec, those were Pussycat Dolls songs. I much rather hear  “PCD Nicole” than “solo Nicole” that doesn’t sound like she is enjoying making music she is singing and is just literally screaming her name out at the top of her lungs!

“Killer Love” will at least serve as a testament to Nicole’s determination cos other than that it doesn’t add up to much else.

My Rating: 2 flaccid cocks.
