I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. On the one hand, I think it’s a great space to keep up with what’s going on with your pals, posting pics of your (drunken) nights out and of course leaving some sort of “personal stamp” on the digital world. But Facebook has recently really started to annoy me and many others with their censoring of “gay themed” pics and links which has lead me to ask the question: Does Facebook hate the gays?
I am sure that there are plenty of people out there that, sadly, are still uncomfortable with seeing a pic of two men kissing and sharing a “moment.” These narrow-minded people can simply press an button and report the picture that makes them uncomfortable and BAM, you are issued a warning telling you that “someone” has reported a picture that “threatens or harassess and/or contains nudity or excessive violence” and your account can be disabled, suspended or deleted.
Recently this happened to Porn Hunk (and My Cover Gay Winner 2011) Issac Jones. He and his partner, were issued several of these warnings by Facebook for images that they considered to be “sexually explicit.” This was the picture that started it all, and it was removed for being pornographic and sexually explicit. Let’s Take a look:
Now, obviously there is nothing overtly sexual about this picture. There are adverts on T.V, magazines and even Facebook itself that show more skin than this and are a lot more sexually suggestive but in those cases it happens to be a heterosexual couple rather than a gay one. So what gives? Why did FaceBook remove this picture? They were never given an answer.
Facebook now has warned them about another picture, that shows the couple in a playful, yet sexy pose with NO NUDITY on display, here it is for you to see:
Is this picture in any way harassing anyone? Is there any extreme violence shown? Does it target hate towards a specific group? What the hell is FaceBook so afraid of? Two men kissing or being playful with each other? Seriously, what is their beef with us homos?
I have had it and have decided to do something about it! I am putting it out there for others to see that Facebook is censoring things that SHOULD NOT be censored. They are abusing their power and therefore sending a message to us all that it’s fine if you wanna be gay but just don’t flaunt your “gayness” by uploading pictures of same-sex couples in love, kissing or showing any kind of affection because at the end of the day that offends someone!
GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK FACEBOOK!
