Review of Da Week: Kaskade “Fire & Ice”

Some might say that house, dance music has no soul and can be pretty cold. This is not the case with Kaskade. This American DJ has produced some of the most lush dance music there is out there. He has scored massive club hits such as “Everything,” “Steppin Out” and “4am” as well as remixing tracks for peeps like Britney and Gaga.

Kaskade has 6 albums to his name and has just released his 7th “Fire & Ice.” The best part of the entire project is the fact that for this album he decided to release a “Fire” side of his songs which feature a more dance vibe while the “Ice” is more laid back and well.. chilled. 2 CD’s which are both brilliant in their own right due to the fact that even though they are the same songs, they take on a totally different feel with the treatment they are given.

The “Fire” CD is absolutely perfect mix of electro-house beats with a strong emotional pull. From the haunting first single “Eyes” which has amazing light, almost whisper like vocals by Mindy Gledhill to the thomping beats of  “Lessons in Love” feat. The Neon Trees this album has both soft and hard moments that do not sound out of place on the same album. The party really gets going with the ultimate groove of “Lick it” which has an almost like 70′s disco bass with a fair amount of 80′s electro that makes it one of the many stand-outs on this perfect dance album. With 10 solid tracks there is not one song here that does not belong.

The “Ice” CD takes things down a notch and creates and atmosphere of quiet bliss. When you listen to the “Ice” mixes of all the songs you feel as though you are listening to them for the first time and it really did surprise me that I enjoyed the “Ice” mixes as much as I did. This is ultimate listening enjoyment.

Amazing, breathtaking, soulful and beautiful, this is exactly what dance music should sound like.

My Rating: 5 golden cocks!

Have a look at  the wicked single “Turn It Down”
