Glam 2 The 80′s!

This is one of my fave groups EVER! Their 80′s inspired funk had me up many a nights dancing and drinking the night away! I just love everything about them, the look, the vibe, the sounds! It’s all very retro but with a modern twist!

They had a huge hits last year with the a-mazing “Fascination” and of course the camp-tastic “Boyfriend.” They all rocked and their videos were straight out of 1986 sans the bad hair, well wait, there was a lot of bad hair in their videos!

Now they are back with another slice of pop heaven. “The Spell” is the first single off of their 2nd album and I seriously CAN NOT wait for this album! It’s one of my most awaited albums for the 2nd half of 2009! So here is an exclusive listen at their single! ENJOY, all you dance crazed Gays!

Alphabeat – “The Spell”

It’s that time of year when EVERYONE is dragging out their best and worst of the year in terms of music, so I thought why not do the best and the shitiest music of 2008?

There has been A LOT of great music this year but there has also been quite a bit of shit on the airwaves that we have had to listen to OVER & OVER AGAIN. It’s been quite a difficult task but I think I have managed to pick 5 of the best pop song of 2008 and 5 of the shittiest pop songs of 2008 as well. Part 1 will include The Best and part 2 will include my favorite piece to write The Shitiest.

This has been a HUGE year for my favorite genre of music slut pop, which is a delicate combination of stripper songs and tunes recorded by hookers with a heart-o-gold. Sadly this has also been a HUGE year for “comebacks”. Some (New Kids On the Block ) left us wondering why the hell did they come back? and others (Britney Spears) left us wondering were they ever really gone? Let’s get on with………..

The BEST of 2008

Lady Gaga - Poker Face

This has been a huge year for Lady Gaga and I can see why. Although she has not been “officially” released here in the U.K people who LOVE pop music have been following this minx for quite some time now.

I was having some problems which single to pick, I mean , I ADORE “Just Dance” but I think it’s been just a tad too overplayed (or at least in my head it is). But I mainly picked this song cos it is just soooo good and it really has an A-MAZING video that I have already raved on about here. The other thing that makes this song, and most of her songs, great are the remixes that come along with the single. The Dave Aude remix of this song is ALMOST as good as the original. (ALMOST, I said)

I know a lot of people are saying “oh she reminds me of Gwen Stefani” and while there is some truth to that Gwen was never, and will never be, as raunchy as Gaga. She is high class escort/call girl ALL the way. I really love how she presents her image and the way she takes herself  just a tad too seriously but at the same time with a slight tongue and cheek feel to it.

To me this has been THE best new artist of 2008 and people 2009 will be the year that EVERY ONE will know this woman’s name. Belidat!

Alphabeat - Boyfriend

Have you ever wanted the 80′s to come back in FULL force? Well thanks to the Swedish group Alphabeat you can now go out in your leg warmers and skin tight jeans and TOTALLY get away with it.

This song is probably one of the catchiest songs of the year without being annoying. The video is about as camp as it gets and has inspired many a drunk to bust out in all kinds of 80′s moves (cabbage patch, anyone?)

The thing that makes this song sound fresh and not dated is the fact that it just sounds as though these guys are having so much fun making this kind of music that you can’t help but doing a bit of the road runner yourself.

I like their album “This is Alphabeat’ but to me this is just a slice of pop perfection.

I’m also ALL about remixes and songs that have tons of remixes always gives you the option of maybe not liking the original but liking a remixed, better version. To me, this song is quite difficult to improve, BUT if you like the song to take a bit more house-electro feel to it, then the Dave Spoon Remix is the version for you. It takes the song to another level.

Britney - Womanizer

Say what you will about our beloved Britters, (she can’t sing live for shit, she’s troubled and crazy, she is nothing more than her daddy’s little puppet…….and the list goes on and on…) but one thing she does know how to do is pick fantastic pop songs.

After last years “Blackout”, which some felt was her best work to date, many thought, well what the hell is she gonna do now? And she came back with this song, right from the start you can tell who the fuck is in control. She sounds very present in this song. I will say that the song does get A BIT annoying after listening to it for the millionth time, but yet again the remixes are here to save the day and this song gets grade-A dj’s, and the best remix, which is in my opinion better than the original, comes to us courtesy of my love Kaskade. His remix is the best remix a Britters song has received.

Britney was never gone so people, don’t call it a comeback.

Kylie - In My Arms

When “X” came out last year people said that it was a mess and that it lacked a sense of a definite direction. Lets just be honest and say that, yes “2 Hearts” was probably not the best way to start off for an important lead single, BUT this does not mean that the rest of the album was shit. Far from it.

If “In My Arms” had been released first, it would have been a TOTALLY different story for that album. This song is what Kylie is ALL about: fun, pop with a slight edgy twist.

When I first heard this song I really though it was the next CGYOFMH, but sadly people were less than pleased with the entire promotion of “X” so it only managed to peak at an o.k 10 on the U.K charts. By no means a flop, but it did deserve a lot more to be honest. The only slight problem I have is the video. Compared to other recent Kylie videos, it felt a bit cheap and rushed, but I think that they were trying to kill 2 birds with one stone doing “Wow” and “In My Arms” back to back.

The best remix of this song is the Chris Lake Vocal Remix which takes the best part of the song and brings it to the forefront. I LOVE THIS REMIX!

VERY overlooked yet VERY A-Mazing!

Roisin - You Know Me Better

Now if you want to talk about a Kick-ASS song that SHOULD HAVE been a No.1 but wasn’t for some strange fucking reason then look no further than Roisin Murphy’s “You Know Me Better”. One thing I will say, is that this is better than anything, ANY of the X-factor puppets have or ever will release EVER. PERIOD.

I think this woman is mad. She does whatever the fuck she wants and she really gets a kick out of what she does and it sooo shows. All of her “Overpowered” CD was stellar. “Let Me Know” was my fave song of 2007.  This song is so full of meaning and it’s all set to a great disco beat, and in the words of Valarie Cherish, Who really can resist a disco beat? I know I can’t.

The video is also quite amazing but pales in comparrison to the video for “Moviestar” where we see our dear Roisin getting raped by a lobster, yes, lobster folks, see to believe. The video for that song is funny as hell and the song is ALSO great. See how hard this is? Well, I had to pick one but it slowly morphed into 2 songs, but when it comes to Roisin really I’m just a greedy cunt.
